Parents for a Future, by Rupert Read - Online Book Launch
We are delighted to invite you to the book launch of Parents for a Future by Rupert Read. Please join us and share the invite widely and REGISTER via EventBrite.
Rupert Read will be joined by a panel of parent activists to discuss the power of the parent movement.
Panellists - Ruper Read, Roman Krznaric, author of The Good Ancestor, Bel Jacobs former fashion editor turned climate activist and Rowan Ryrie, environmental rights lawyer and Parents for Future founder member.
Can our love for our children form the impetus of a movement capable of driving the change needed to tackle the climate crisis?
Rupert Read argues that it can.
“I’ve thought for many years that the most relevant game-changing ‘class’ now, in the twenty-first century, in the age of enduring ecological crisis, is: the parents of the world.”- Rupert Read.
We are potentially facing climate-related societal collapse and, Read argues, the only prudent response to this is a radical transformation of our democracy and the way we live. Previous approaches have not been successful in driving this change. Scientific facts have failed to convince us to act to prevent the death of our planet.
We are all children of past generations and parents of future generations whether we have our own children or not. Our children will love their children as deeply as we love them. Our grandchildren will do the same. In this way, we are connected to all humans, and it is this understanding that we should enshrine in our collective decision-making and institutions, to secure and shape the future of humanity.
Rupert Read will be joined by a panel of writers and parent activists to discuss his book and the power and potential of this emerging parent movement.
The event will showcase the action of the existing parent movement, and will also be an opportunity to learn about UK based parent climate groups and the work they have been doing over the few years.
Please join at 7.30 for a 7.45 start.
More information about the hosts:
Extinction Rebellion Families: We are a group of parents and carers deeply concerned about the climate crisis and what it means for children both now and in the future. This supportive community has come together to take action to address climate breakdown. We act on behalf of those suffering climate breakdown now, and of future generations who will feel the effects of choices made today.
Mothers Rise Up: We are a fast growing movement of ordinary mums who are worried sick about the climate crisis. We are inspired by young people who are striking for climate action. But we can’t leave it to our children to fix a mess that past generations have created. Parents need to speak out too.
Parents For Future: Parents for Future was formed in 2019 by a network of parents inspired by Greta Thunberg and the Fridays for Future movement. Our aim is to normalise climate advocacy for parents.
